NEW BERN, N.C. (WECT) - A Shallotte man will spend over five years in prison on federal drug and firearm charges, according to the U.S. Attorneyâs Office of the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Anthony Junior Bell, 50, was sentenced on Wednesday after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and 28 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), possession with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine and 28 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), and possession of a firearm by a felon.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Southport Chief of Police Todd Coring has been named law enforcement officer of the year by the The American Legion of North Carolina.
Coring, who took over as Chief of Police in 2018, will now be in the running for law enforcement officer of the year in the Legionâs national competition.
Prior to taking the position of chief in 2018, Coring spent 20 years with the Brunswick County Sheriffâs Office and also serves with the Southport Fire Department. He made the transition to Police Chief after leaving the Brunswick County Sheriffâs Office and serving as Southportâs mayor pro tem.

A Brunswick County man is being accused of child sex crimes and incest.
Cornelius Lashawnne Johnson, 31, was charged on Dec. 10 with indecent liberties with a child, first-degree statutory sex offense, statutory rape of a child by an adult and incest, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff s Office.
According to his arrest warrant, Johnson is accused of committing a lewd and lascivious act upon the body of a child said to be a 13-year-old girl.
The alleged crimes took place from Jan. 1 through Nov. 19.
Johnson is scheduled to appear in court the week of Jan. 26.

A Brunswick County man accused of murdering his wife in 2019 pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday.
Phillip Brock, 73, was charged with the March 15, 2019 murder of his wife, Judy Patricia Brock, after she was found dead in a wooded area in Sampson County, according to a press release from the Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office.
Brock received an active sentence of 20-to-25 years in prison.
Brock initially reported his wife as missing. During the investigation, detectives began to suspect Brock after learning he had disabled the GPS device on his phone and attempted to disable the GPS device on his 2018 Ford F-150, according to the release.
