Councilman Michael Spadafino, who was Stanley’s runningmate during the 2016 council election, read a resolution during the Feb. 8 council meeting honoring Stanley for his years of service to the community. Stanley served as a councilman from Jan. 1, 2017, through Jan. 26 and served as council president in 2019 and 2020, according to the council. Honored by the resolution, Stanley thanked everyone, and said it was an honor working with each member of the governing body and the municipal staff.

Phil Murphy signed the Clean Energy Act of 2018, directing the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to establish a community solar program. This allows commercial real estate owners to rent their roof space to house solar facilities that power their community. The state is currently in the second year of a three-year pilot program as it moves toward its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2050. Middlesex County towns have been showing support for community solar projects. Murphy visited the 4PX Express/Duke Realty Solar Warehouse in Perth Amboy on Jan. 28 in a show of commitment to transforming to a clean economy and investing in green, good paying jobs in the state.

Joseph Camarota, Archana “Ann” Glover and Jo Hochman were sworn in to their next terms on the Township Council during the council’s reorganization meeting on Jan. 11. The incumbents were re-elected to their four-year terms during the November election. Camarota has been a resident of South Brunswick for 32 years. He is a family entertainment consultant. He has served on the council since 2005 as a Democratic councilman and as deputy mayor. South Brunswick passes clean energy ordinance South Brunswick passes clean energy ordinance SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The South Brunswick Township Council voted unanimously in favor of an ordinance to create a new energy program that will put the town on a path to offer 100% renewable electricity to all residents by the end of the decade.   The ordinance, which was advanced by local residents who worked with Food & Water Watch (F&WW), creates a new program allowing the municipality to purchase energy on behalf of residents at discounted bulk rates, and to set guidelines about the sources of electricity, according to a statement provided by F&WW.
