For people that don t like mixing social issues with their entertainment, Wednesday wasn t a great day. But it was an important day for the genre of Country Music. I ve worked in the genre since 1993 and I can t remember a day where I ve felt so much sadness and then pride in a matter of hours.
I m not going to dwell on Morgan Wallen. He is reaping what he sowed by uttering a word that you simply can t use. In any situation or context. Never. It made me sad for our format yesterday because prior to his drunken weekend screw up, Morgan was flying high and had all of us excited for what was next. Now we don t know if there will be a next. But then late yesterday morning, we got more news from the world of Country Music.

After a disappointing 2020, organizers behind the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa are gearing up for an exciting 2021! Last April, they were forced to cancel the event because of the coronavirus pandemic, but they opted to keep the planned route the same for 2021, with a few small changes.
Over the weekend, this year s official RAGBRAI route was announced during an event at Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City. According to an article on RAGBRAI s website, the ride will take place July 25th through July 31st. The article says:

Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines Has Opened a Big New Event Center
When large events are finally a part of our daily lives again, there will be a new place to host them here in Iowa! A new article from
KCRGsays that Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines has officially opened a brand new event center that will be home to educational activities, conservation programming, recreational events, and private gatherings such as business meetings, weddings, and reunions.
According to the Blank Park Zoo s Facebook page, the Holmes Foster Event Center is 10,000 square feet and serves as a replacement for the ZooPlex. The president and CEO of Blank Park Zoo, Anne Shimerdla said that the new building contains restrooms, a catering kitchen, and bride and groom suites, plus it s temperature-controlled and has AV and wi-fi. It can fit 350 people at round tables, or 500 people theatre-style.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department has announced charges have been filed against a 20-year-old male in the death of 18-year-old Marisa Doolin on the city s west side four weeks ago.
According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department (CRPD), the CRPD and Linn County Attorney s Office worked jointly on the case, and charges were filed against Larenzo L. Burnett this morning. Cedar Rapids Police say Burnett pointed a firearm at Doolin intentionally the afternoon of Tuesday, December 22, just before 3:30 p.m., at a second-floor apartment at 2110 Westdale Drive S.W. According to police, Burnett then accidentally discharged the weapon, shooting Doolin. The gunshot wound Doolin suffered caused her death on Saturday, December 26.
