Three Hefajat-e-Islam leaders were arrested in connection the cases filed over violence in 2013 and March this year, and four more, including three top Hefajat leaders, were placed on remand yesterday.
The Detective Branch of police yesterday arrested Hefajat s Assistant Secretary General and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Nayeb-e-Amir Khurshid Alam Kasemi from his house in the capital s Mohammadpur yesterday afternoon, said Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Khelafat Majlish s Joint Secretary Mufti Sharafat Hossain was held from Mirpur area around 5:00pm. He was involved in the Hefajat s violence in 2013 and March this year, Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DB-Gulshan) of DMP, told The Daily Star.

Seven more Hefajat-e-Islam supporters have been arrested in connection with the cases filed over vandalism and arson during demonstration by its activists in Brahmanbaria on March 26 and 28 centring the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said in a press release sent from the Special Branch of the district police.
The law enforcers arrested them from different areas, conducting a special drive from last evening to this morning, said Md Roish Uddin, additional superintendent of police in Brahmanbaria.
So far, 56 cases have been filed over the mayhem 49 with Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station, four with Ashuganj Police Station, two with Sarail Police Station, and one with Akhaura Railway Police Station.

Detective Branch of Police have arrested 30 more people, including activists of Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh, in connection with the clashes and vandalism in Brahmanbaria between March 26 and 28, according to a press release of Special Branch of district police.
Md Roish Uddin, additional superintendent of police in Brahmanbaria, confirmed the arrests and said they were arrested during a special raid last night.
Most of the arrestees are activists and supporters of Hefajat-e-Islam, he added.
Police have so far arrested 298 people, including 258 activists and supporters of Hefajat, 37 of BNP and three of Jamaat-Shibir in connection with the cases filed over the clashes.

Police yesterday arrested two top leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam from the capital along seven supporters of the Islamist group from Brahmanbaria.
The two leaders are Dhaka City unit President Maulana Zunayed Al Habib and an Assistant Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed
Maulana Zunayed is also the joint secretary general of Hefajat, a Qawmi madrasa-based Islamist organisation.
Law enforcers said that the two were arrested in connection with cases filed following the 2013 mayhem and the one in late March this year.
