City council approves $150,000 to health department for COVID expenses

[Photo by Derrick Stuckly] The Brownwood City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department to spend up to $150,000 for non-grant covered expenses for COVID-19 through April. The City of Brownwood will pay a 53-percent portion based on county population, which comes out to $79,000. Service funds for COVID response grants will be insufficient to cover actual expenses as the Health Department continues contact tracing, case management, and vaccination clinics, and plans to continue as necessary to provide health and safety for the community.

500 Doses of COVID Vaccine Allocated to Brown County This Week

According to the Department of State Health Services website, Brown County is scheduled to receive 500 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this week, the week of February 22. The vaccine is allocated to the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department. In our immediate area, other allocations are as follows: Callahan County – 100 doses to Resourcecare Clinic in Clyde Coleman County – 100 doses to Coleman Medical Associates Comanche County – 100 doses to Brookshire’s Pharmacy and 100 doses to Comanche County Medical Center Concho County – 100 doses to CCH Pharmacy Eastland County – 100 doses to Brookshire’s Pharmacy in Cisco Erath County – 1,000 doses to Erath County EMS in Stephenville and 200 doses to Tarleton State University Student Health Services in Stephenville

Commissioners Receive Update on COVID Cases and Vaccine Plans

Brown County Commissioners received an update Monday morning, February 22, on the current status of COVID-19.  Lisa Dick, administrator of the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department, told commissioners the number of positive COVID cases last week in Brown County was 50, which was down from 151 the previous week.  There was also limited testing due to the extreme weather and clinics being closed. There is now 5,500 people on the health department waiting list to receive the COVID vaccine.  Weather played havoc with the delivery of 200 doses scheduled for last week.  The health department hopes to conduct the vaccine clinic Tuesday at The Depot, contacting those on the list who previously signed up.  Brown County was allotted another 500 doses this week which the health department hopes to receive this week.  It was also noted that Walgreens and United Pharmacies locally have administered relatively low numbers of the vaccine and some local citizens have gone out of town to rec
