Despite the rollout of vaccines India’s mammoth programme will begin on Saturday many nations are doubling down on efforts to stall a pandemic that has now claimed almost two million lives.

More Travel Restrictions in Europe as Pandemic Keeps Spreading

This comes as a U.K. minister raised doubt about the efficacy of vaccines against the new, potent South African variant of the virus. Travelers into the U.K., including the country’s citizens, will have to submit a coronavirus test taken in the three days before their departure before they are allowed into the country.

Armando BABANI / AFP   Germany on Tuesday extended a ban on arrivals from Britain and South Africa until January 6 after a new more infectious coronavirus strain appeared in the two countries. “The transport ban covers passenger traffic by train, bus, ship, and flights directly from these countries,” the health ministry said in a statement. “The order covers the period from December 22, 2020 until January 6, 2021.”
