Editor s note: The Herald is in the process of writing profiles on each candidate. Click the links below on the candidates who have been featured so far.  Summer isn’t over yet, but candidates in Franklin’s fall municipal election have already started campaigning.   This October will be the first city election with significant turnover on the board since 2007; three of the four sitting ward aldermen up for election won’t run for another term — Scott Speedy, Dana McLendon and Margaret Martin — nor will interim Alderman At-Large John Schroer.   Schroer, a former Franklin mayor, was appointed to serve as alderman in the winter of 2020 after the death of Pearl Bransford, who served in that role for 13 years. 

Springboro High School receives $400k donation from late ex-teacher

View Comments She taught at Springboro High School for just seven years. But when Patricia McCandless died in 2018, she left her entire estate to the high school. “We’ve been asking ourselves, ‘Why? Why Springboro High School?’ ” Scott Marshall, communications coordinator for the district said in a release.  Marshall talked to local news organizations and community members, trying to find people who knew McCandless, who worked for the district when the building was called Clearcreek High School. After speaking with some of McCandless’s close friends, he figured the answer had to be the late Ray Perez, a former school superintendent and an early teacher and mentor for McCandless.

In our second all-virtual workshop, fifteen teens, aged 15-18, will spend four weeks learning about radio journalism and audio storytelling. Youth participants will do all of the research, interviews, writing, voicing and editing to produce their own short radio stories from home.
