DEAR SUN SPOTS: There has been a great deal of “fixing up” this year and I have unearthed a couple of things that should be returned, if possible, to the owners. I was one of the costumers for Community Little Theatre’s 2001-02 season production of “The Sound of Music.” Several people loaned time period and […]

REGION Long before the coronavirus pandemic struck, volunteers throughout Regional School District 73 were making a difference for students. While there have had to be some changes, even more is being done for students within the schools they attend now.
“One thing about this community, it’s always been amazing, comes together in a time of crisis,” high school guidance counselor Chris Beaudion said at the Jan. 14 school board meeting.
Judy Hamilton of Hartford has stitched almost 1,600 masks for students at the elementary school. She has made almost 6,000 masks to date and came to help the local school in a roundabout way.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am 77 and my husband is 78. I’ve been trying to get through the incredible amount of information being put out about the coronavirus. My doctor told us we should get the vaccination, but it’s impossible to sort through the amount of information. I have read at our age that we should get it, but I don’t know where to turn to make an appointment and get it done. No one seems to have any simple direct information on this. Can you use your powers and tell us what we need to do? I am sure a lot of people are looking for this same information. Thank you for your wonderful column. Gail, no town

FARMINGTON – Valerie “Val” A. Taylor, 78, passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 28, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her family and friends will remember her most as a loyal friend, a generous crafter, and a “hostest-with-the-mostest”. She recently made hundreds of COVID-19 masks, teddy bears, and quilts; and with a loving heart donated them to various charities. Her hobbies also included but were not limited to her flourishing flower and vegetable gardens. After her 30-plus year retirement from the shoe industry, and before the onset of her disease, “Val” graciously donated many hours at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. “Val” is sadly missed, and survived by her sister, Sabra

JAY A woman is accused of operating a vehicle while under the influence and assaulting a police officer, the chief said Friday.
Police Chief Richard Caton IV said Crystal McNeil, 44, kicked a police officer in the chest Thursday afternoon as he tried to put her in the cruiser.
A passerby reported an accident at about 2:51 p.m. at the intersection of Davenport Hill and Morse Hill roads, where a vehicle had gone into a ditch, he said.
A vehicle driven by McNeil was traveling southwest on Morse Hill Road toward Dixfield, and appears to have attempted to turn left on Davenport Hill Road but instead drove into a ditch, Caton said. Jay’s in-house system indicates McNeil lives in Jay, but her license indicates a South Paris address, he said. The vehicle she was driving was registered in Skowhegan.
