Free Taxi Service Aims To Boost Employment In Rural Western Massachusetts

Listen to the interview with Andrew Baker. A new program in western Massachusetts can help people who have lost their transportation due to an accident, breakdown, or expensive repair bill, not lose their job also. Funded by a $150,000 grant, The Franklin Regional Transit Authority has launched a taxi service to get people to late shift jobs in Franklin County and home again when there is no fixed route bus service. Workforce development officials believe it could also be the ticket to filling numerous job openings in manufacturing and healthcare where many entry-level opportunities are on the second and third shifts. People looking to use the taxi service can contact the FRTA at 413-774-2262.
