Ron Suvak, principal at Franklin Regional Senior High School, said his goal for 2021 was simple: To ensure students’ second semester experience is better than the first, educationally, socially and emotionally.
Suvak presented school board members with the results from a recent survey of high school students, focused on their experience in the district’s hybrid education model, in which separate groups attend two days per week in person, learning online the other three days. On Wednesdays, all students learn online while the building undergoes a full cleaning.

Kristin Giron Stewart, her husband, Chris and children Jake and Bella of Lower Burrell, all were stricken with covid-19 this summer. Kristin, who was hospitalized for 13 days, continues to battle a host of lingering symptoms known as long haulers syndrome.

When Kristin Giron Stewart was discharged from UPMC St. Margaret hospital after a 13-day battle with covid-19 over the summer, she thought she was well on her way to recovery.
The 47-year-old Lower Burrell woman grew frustrated and frightened as the days wore on, and she continued to struggle with a rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, brain fog and depression.
