Health experts are fearing another Covid-19 spike as case numbers continue to soar across the country.
Ireland had 1,620 new infections on Thursday, with top doctors warning that 4,000 positive tests haven t yet been reported.
Dr Tony Holohan claimed that the virus is now out of control , saying that close contacts will now not be tested unless they show symptoms.
The Chief Medical Officer is extremely worried about growing figures, the rapid growth in hospitalisations, and two new strains of the deadly bug.

However, Kady was pipped to the post by Brodie McWilliams Brown who was born at the National Maternity Hospital at just four seconds after midnight.
His mother Jennifer McWilliams, from Sallynoggin in Dublin, says she had no idea her baby would be among the first of 2021. I had no clue until I had been induced that he would be one of the first,” she said. We didn t actually think that he was going to be the first.
There were also births at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise at four minutes past midnight.

The first births in Waterford in 2021 have taken place.
A baby girl was delivered at University Hospital Waterford at 39 minutes past two.
Meanwhile Brodie McWilliams Brown was one of Ireland’s first 2021 babies.
He was born at the National Maternity Hospital just four seconds after midnight.
Brodie’s family all comes from Sallynoggin in Dublin.
His mother Jennifer McWilliams said she didn’t realise her baby would be among the first of 2021. “I had no clue until I was induced. We didn’t actually think he was going to be the first,” she laughed.

Speaking on RTE s Morning Ireland, he said: We have taken the decision in a way that s consistent with Nphet to move to a full Level 5 set of restrictions until the end of January and it may be necessary to go even beyond that.
