NEW BEDFORD The city of New Bedford has been allocated nearly $65 million in federal funds to aid in its COVID-19 recovery. To help determine how the one-time funds should be spent, the city on Friday launched an outreach effort to facilitate input from residents.
Through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Massachusetts municipalities and counties are receiving $3.4 billion.
According to the city, there are four categories of eligible uses: respond to the negative economic impacts caused by COVID-19; support the public health response and public health staff; support government services to the extent of a government s reduction in revenue; and invest in water, sewer or broadband infrastructure.
