A cutting-edge trial being carried out in Bradford could save the lives of heart attack patients RESEARCHERS in Bradford have launched a cutting-edge trial, which could save the lives of patients who have suffered heart attacks. The study is being run under the auspices of the National Institute for Health Research Patient Recruitment Centre (PRC), which is hosted by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and run by the Bradford Institute for Health Research, which is based at Bradford Royal Infirmary. This latest research trial for PRC Bradford was made possible by a £7 million Government investment. The late-phase ‘DAPA-MI’ clinical research trial evaluates AstraZeneca s drug, Farxiga (dapagliflozin) as a treatment to reduce mortality and the risk of heart failure following a heart attack.

Two hospital services move to new unit at Eccleshill | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

BRADFORD’S haematology and oncology services have moved into a new home, which is officially being opened today. The new unit - ‘The Meadows Unit’ - is based at Eccleshill Community Hospital, part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and houses haematology and oncology outpatients’ clinics and an oncology day unit in refurbished surroundings. The Trust’s Chief Executive, Mel Pickup, and one of the service’s longest standing patients will officially open the unit. She said: “A large, dedicated area has been totally transformed, fully re-decorated and renovated and specially designed with all the comforts of our patients in mind. This is really going to make a big difference for our patients.”

ONE further Covid-19-related hospital death has been reported today in Bradford. According to the latest NHS figures, one further death was reported by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, May 5, while no further deaths were reported by Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. It means the total number of reported hospital deaths in the Bradford district now stands at 886 - 624 at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, 260 at Airedale and two at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust. Nationally, a further 21 patients who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 87,020.

Boy left brain damaged after catalogue of errors at BRI receives £10m compensation

Bradford Royal Infirmary A BOY who suffered catastrophic brain damage as a baby after a catalogue of errors at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) is to receive millions of pounds in compensation. The boy, who is now 10, and cannot be identified for legal reasons, is severely disabled and completely dependent on others for all of his needs. He is unable to walk, is registered blind and has no speech, meaning he requires specialist carers 24-hours a day. The High Court in London yesterday agreed the settlement of around £10 million should be paid to the boy to pay for the care he will need for the rest of his life. It will also enable him to live in a house specially adapted for his disabilities and access specialist equipment and therapies.
