And one objector to the scheme said the decision doesn t inspire my confidence in local democracy. An application to build over 40 homes on a field next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal, known as the Willows, was refused by members of Bradford Council s Regulatory and Appeals Committee last year. Members felt that the vehicle access to the site, off Hainsworth Road, was inadequate to support a housing estate of this size. Applicant Mick Smith appealed that decision, but his appeal was dismissed by a planning inspector last Summer. However - that decision did not prove to be the victory for objectors they may have originally thought it was.
IT is hoped that a new public space protection order could prevent the chaotic scenes seen at Ilkley s riverside area in recent summers from happening again this year. Councillors today voted to move ahead with a six week consultation that would eventually lead to a new order that would give more powers to wardens and police to disperse crowds gathering at the beauty spot - including powers to issue fines for tombstoning, drinking and lighting fires. In recent years warm weather has brought huge crowds to the area, often from far outside the Bradford District - an issue police say is increasingly stretching their forces.
Wilsden Park WILSDEN Parish Council could soon take over the responsibility for two of the village s cherished green spaces. At a meeting on Thursday a decision will be made as to whether the Parish Council will take on the responsiblity for maintaining Wilsden Park and Firth Lane Playing Field, also known as Wilsden Recreation Ground. At an online meeting members of Bradford Council s Regulatory and Appeals Committee will sit as trustees of the Royd House Trust, the body responsible for the park, and the Trustees of the Firth Lane Recreation Ground to discuss the playing field. Both green spaces were handed to Bingley District Urban Council under the agreement that they would remain fre to use by the people of Wilsden.
The planned layout of the site after the extension is built PLANS to expand a Bradford business have been enthusiastically approved by Councillors. Bradford based Metalcraft Ltd had submitted plans to build a huge expansion to its Progress Works site on Hall Lane, East Bowling. The application was approved by members of Bradford Council s Regulatory and Appeals Committee yesterday. The existing building on the site has a floor area of 568 square metres - and the extension will provide an additional 5,369 square metres in floor area to allow for an engineering operation that will create 40 jobs at the metal manufacturer. Parking spaces at the site will increase from 12 to 102.
Councillor Abid Hussain (Lab, Keighley Central) died of Covid 19 on Christmas Eve. And Councillor Mike Ellis (Cons, Bingley Rural) died earlier this week following a battle with cancer. Both men have sat on Bradford Council s Regulatory and Appeals Committee - a planning panel that makes decisions on the biggest planning applications. At the latest meeting of the Committee yesterday Chair Councillor David Warburton paid tribute to the late Councillors. Of Abid Hussain, who recently served as Lord Mayor of Bradford, he said: he was a close friend and fellow Labour party members for many, many years. He will sorely missed, and our thoughts go to his family and friends.
