Coronavirus doctor s diary: How the virus has changed our sleep patterns

BBC News Published image copyrightGetty Images Sleep disturbances are a common reaction to all natural disasters - from floods to epidemics, writes John Wright of Bradford Royal Infirmary, and the Covid pandemic is no exception. When I started this diary just over a year ago the virus was hurtling towards us from distant shores and my clinical colleagues were waking up in the middle of the night worrying about the brewing storm. When the hospital began filling with acutely ill patients, the insomnia stemmed from worries about individual patients and mental checklists for the day ahead. As lockdown began, this insomnia spread rapidly to the rest of the population. In national surveys in the UK and Italy, the majority of people reported problems sleeping. Coronavirus doctor s diary: Has Covid changed hospitals for the better?

BBC News Published image copyrightBTHFT image captionA mother holds a device called a Tyto to her son s chest, enabling doctors in the hospital to listen in The pandemic has been a catalyst for innovation in the NHS and some changes will have a lasting effect, says Dr John Wright of Bradford Royal Infirmary. Bradford has a chance to build back fairer, health chief says | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

BRADFORD has been given a chance to re-design its system and create “real change”, a health chief has said. Dr James Thomas, clinical chair at NHS Bradford District and Craven Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said recovery from the pandemic cannot just be “patching up cracks” in a meeting on health inequalities and lessons from Covid-19. Held by Bradford Foundation Trust and the Race Equality Network, the forum saw leading voices in research, science and charitable organisations share their perspectives on the past 12 months. It comes one year after Bradford Royal Infirmary opened its first Covid-19 ward. Staff paid tribute to those who lost their lives as well as colleagues who have worked tirelessly to save lives.
