SHOPPERS and visitors are being urged to “rediscover” Bradford city centre as non-essential retailers and hostelries with outdoor seating get back to business today. Business leaders want people to look at the city centre, its shops and leisure attractions, “with fresh eyes” and seek out places they may not have visited recently to show just how much the city centre has to offer.
Bradford Business Improvement District (BID), the limited company funded by levy-payers to help promote and develop the city centre, has teamed up with the Telegraph & Argus to launch the Rediscover Bradford campaign to encourage shoppers to support their local businesses as they fight to get back on their feet after the lockdown.
BRADFORD s shopping centres have welcomed people back on a momentous day for the retail sector. For the first time since early January, non-essential shops have been able to open their doors as the roadmap out of the third Covid-19 lockdown continues. The city centre was bustling as people returned to their favourite stores. Primark in particular has been a big draw throughout the day, with around 500 people queuing to get in at one point. There was also a large queue snaking around the side of The Broadway as Debenhams prepared to open for its closing down sale. Catherine Riley, manager at Kirkgate Shopping Centre, said: We ve been and spoken to all our retailers that we ve not seen for so many months.
Innovative event to showcase Bradford businesses supported by Exa Networks
A LEADING Bradford company is supporting an initiative to showcase the wealth of products and services local businesses have to offer. Internet services provider, Exa Networks, is one of the main sponsors of a virtual event, hosted by the Telegraph & Argus, to support great businesses in the Bradford area. The event takes place on the Telegraph & Argus’s Facebook page on February 25, bringing together a diverse range of businesses from a variety of sectors. Each participating business will be producing a short video, showing how they have met the challenges of lockdown by adapting their working practices, as well as looking forward to being able to resume normal customer relations once the lockdown is over.
