WINNIPEG Manitoba Health will officially scale back elective surgeries across the province, as the number of COVID-19 cases and patients requiring intensive care continues to rise. During a news conference on Friday, Lanette Siragusa, Shared Health’s chief nursing officer, confirmed 19 ICU beds will be added to Grace Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital, Health Sciences Centre and the Brandon Regional Health Centre. “While our efforts to train and recruit new critical care staff over the recent months will help support some of this expanded capacity, in order to staff these beds appropriately, we are going to have to make the difficult decision to reduce clinical activity in some places,” Siragusa said.
Rod Sage was named Brandon City Manager in 2018.

In July of 2019, a 30-year-old woman named Christine Mitchell was living in the home of then-city manager Rod Sage in Brandon when she overdosed on purple heroin. Mitchell was brought to the hospital, where she later died. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family on their loss, Justice Minster Cameron Friesen says in a statement.
Sage was placed on paid administrative leave in October. He then retired four months later in February, despite having not completed his five-year term.
But Jessica now fears the two months the baby was out of her home might have an impact on his development. I can t get back the breastfeeding bond and I can t get back those two months, she said. And I don t know how this will affect him in the future in terms of his development, whether or not it will affect you know, they say that babies remember things like these, and I really hope he doesn t.
Nearly 100 babies apprehended
According to figures obtained by CBC News thorough a freedom of information request, 93 babies under three days old were apprehended in the first eight months of 2020.

Zoey April Rose Roulette is Brandon’s first baby of 2021.
Zoey was born at 6:25 a.m. Friday morning to proud parents Misty Brown and Les Paul Roulette at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.
According to a press release from Prairie Mountain Health, Zoey weighed approximately seven pounds and 14 ounces and was approximately 20 inches long.
The family wasn’t expecting Zoey to be the first baby born in Brandon in 2021 given she came relatively late in the morning, Roulette said. She is healthy and she is good they said she came out just about the time she needed to come out, Roulette said.
