A surging number of cases over the past two weeks will move Brantford and Brant County from the orange-restrict to red-control zone under Ontario’s COVID-19 guidelines.
The province confirmed on Friday it is moving six public health regions to new levels beginning Monday. The levels will remain in place until Jan. 4 and then reassessed.

Red is the fourth of five stages, which run from the least restrictive green-prevent to lockdown. The other is yellow-protect.

The Brant County Health Unit on Tuesday reported 22 new local cases of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours.
There are now 105 active cases, with one person being treated at Brantford General Hospital.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 674 confirmed cases have been recorded locally, adjusted downward by one as a previous case involves a person now isolating under another health unit’s jurisdiction where they reside.
