The owners of a Brantford fitness centre say a new capacity limit that came into effect Thursday has forced them to close.
Anytime Fitness on King George Road will remain closed until the Brant County Health Unit either amends its directions or the provincially imposed lockdown ends, said co-owner Paul Kunkel.

“There’s no way we can stay open when we’re limited to just five people,” he said. “We’re limited to five people and that includes staff.”

Brantford and Brant County are seeing a decrease in active COVID-19 cases.
The Brant County Health Unit on Wednesday reported 243 active cases, down from 306 on Tuesday

The news also was better Wednesday in terms of new COVID-19 cases, with the health unit reporting 19 positive results in the previous 24 hours, compared to 29 on Tuesday.
For the week ended April 25, the area recorded 242 new cases, down from a record 269 for the week ended April 18.
However, hospitalizations remain high.
On Wednesday morning, a record 28 COVID-19 patients were being treated at Brantford General Hospital, up from 26 on Tuesday. Of the 28 currently being treated, 11 were in critical care and 17 were in acute medical inpatient care.
