Hope is building that frontline hospital and long-term care workers soon will be fully immunized against COVID-19.
Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said this week that, as the supply of Pfizer vaccine increases throughout this month, the province may accelerate second doses for the workers.

That’s good news for Dr. Laura Shoots, an emergency room doctor at Brantford General Hospital.
“A lot of people have been advocating for this for a long time,” said Shoots.
The number of COVID patients in Brantford General Hospital continues to fall.
According to the Brant Community Healthcare System website, eight COVID positive patients were receiving care on Friday, with six in critical care and two listed as other.

The Brant County Health Unit website lists 11 COVID patients in BGH but a spokesperson said the agency’s tally can sometimes lag behind the BCHS numbers.
At one point last month, BGH saw a record 28 COVID patients, with many from outside the area.
The outbreak on the B7 Medical Inpatient Unit at Brantford General Hospital has been declared over.
The outbreak was declared on April 21 when two patients and one health care worker had tested positive for COVID-19. In total, five patients and two staff members tested positive.
In consultation with the Brant County Health Unit, the outbreak was declared over on May 6.
With that, an outbreak has been declared at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital in the South Inpatient Unit.
Three patients tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

New COVID-19 cases remain high in Brantford-Brant.
The Brant County Health Unit reported Thursday 29 new cases in the past 24 hours but noted that five of those cases belong to another health unit.

It was the second straight day with 29 cases. On Tuesday, 30 new cases were reported.
As for active cases, there are 163, the same number that was reported Wednesday.
Hospitalizations also remain the same with 15 people receiving care at Brantford General Hospital on Thursday. There are eight patients in critical care and seven listed as other.
KITCHENER The COVID-19 outbreak in the B7 Medical Inpatient Unit at the Brantford General Hospital has been declared over. The outbreak was declared on April 21 when two patients and one healthcare worker tested positive. Health officials say a total of five patients and two staff tested positive for the virus during the outbreak. In a news release, Brant Community Healthcare System says this outbreak was declared over on Thursday. Last Friday, BCHS declared a different outbreak in the stroke unit at the hospital. As of Thursday, this outbreak is still ongoing.
