(Enterprise photo — Elizabeth Izzo) SARANAC LAKE Sylvia Getman, the president and chief executive officer of Adirondack Health, announced plans to retire this summer on Monday, and a national search committee is being developed to find her successor as head of the region-wide health care system. Getman’s tentative last day on the job is July 1, but Adirondack Health spokesperson Matt Scollin said because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic she has agreed to a flexible transition timeline if a new leader is not found by then.

The Lake Placid-North Elba Joint Review Board is expected to vote next week on whether to approve local developer Joseph Barile’s plans to build The Peaks at Lake Placid, a 355-unit housing complex at the former W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center property on Barn Road.

Feb 24, 2021 LAKE PLACID The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism recently announced changes to the board of directors effective Jan. 1. ROOST’s board of directors, responsible for governing the organization, is comprised of 12 individuals, with at least one director from each region ROOST supports. Recent changes to the board include electing Sarah Wilson to chair and welcoming Chip Grundon and Hillarie Logan-Dechene to the board. Leaving the board are Jill Cardinale Segger, Andrea Holderied and Shawn Goodway. “We are all excited to be on the ROOST team. Our goal is to provide direction for the ROOST organization and go above and beyond to promote our local communities, as places where locals can thrive alongside visitors,” Wilson said in a press release. “As we work through the public health crisis we are focused on ensuring that our tourism economy is positioned for sustainability economic, social and environmental.”

To the editor: The temporary closure of the High Peaks Information Center, operated by the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) at Heart Lake, does indeed highlight the importance of providing good information to incoming hikers, as Zack Floss pointed out in his Feb. 17 column. Thousands of hikers show up at Adirondack trailheads every year with only the foggiest of notions of where they are going and how to get there. The Mountain Club is doing a great job catching many of those people and setting them straight. The club is also helping to build out a robust trail info network consisting of local governments, other nonprofits (eg. Adirondack 46ers and Friends of Hurricane Mountain), commercial stores and the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
