Tom Lee Park reaches funding milestone, will close for construction soon

The design team behind the park gave an update this week highlighting several new features, including a water feature, hammocks and other additional seating areas along with two pavilions that will have concession stands. The team also talked about the children s play areas, which will include massive play structures shaped like river otters.  The update followed an announcement that the park had received $3.25 million in donations from AutoZone, First Horizon Foundation, Baptist Memorial Health Care, Campbell Clinic and Regional One Health, bringing the project to 80% of its funding goal.  Some of the park’s key features have been named after the big-ticket donors.

(WMC) - Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hacks Cross and Stateline Road. Investigators say one person has been rushed to the hospital in critical condition. SCSO says it is unclear how the accident happened. The investigation is ongoing. Le Bonheur and UTHSC sign agreement to obtain genetic information from 25,000 DNA samples As research into genetic causes of disease began to grow, Le Bonheur Pediatrician-in- Chief Jon McCullers, MD, knew it was time to start building a pediatric DNA biorepository. So in 2015, Le Bonheur s Children s Foundation Research Institute (CFRI) created the Biorepository and Integrative Genomics (BIG) Initiative and began collecting DNA samples from hospitalized children at Le Bonheur with the consent of their parents. We knew then that changes in genes impact health and cause disease. We began collecting DNA samples in the hope that at some point we would be able to sequence the DNA and use it for research, said McCullers. Five years and more than 10,000 DNA samples later, this dream is becoming a reality.
