The city, along with the Region of Durham, partner agencies and the faith community have a number of programs in place to help those vulnerable and unsheltered individuals in Oshawa’s downtown. Those working with the city and region to support these vulnerable individuals include the Primary Care Outreach Program, Mission United, operating out of the Back Door Mission, On Point, Welcoming Streets, the HepC Team, and Spirit of Service.

In order to encourage and increase ridership among youth in Durham, TEC approved a discounted rate of $53.50 for the Y10 monthly pass, down from the current discounted price of $73.50. Durham Regional Chair John Henry says it’s important that residents view public transit as a safe, reliable and competitive way to travel. “DRT’s youth-focused fare incentives provide increasing opportunities for the next generation of riders to experience our transit system to travel to school, to work, and to our local facilities and events when they are safe to re-open,” he states.

DRT offering free round trips to get vaccine OPG donates $10,000 to DRT in support of vaccine rollout Posted on April 13, 2021 by oshawaexpress in COVID-19, NEWS, REGION Durham residents can now book a free round trip from their residence to a local vaccination clinic to receive their COVID-19 vaccine. Using Durham Region Transit’s (DRT) On Demand or Specialized Services (eligibility required for Specialized Services), this temporary free service is funded by a $10,000 donation from Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in support of the province’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout. “OPG is pleased to support this initiative to help ensure seniors across Durham who haven’t received a COVID-19 vaccine are able to do so,” states OPG Chief Nuclear Officer Sean Granville. “Combating this pandemic requires a heightened sense of community, and OPG is proud to do what we can to support.”
