USDA sets deadline for Conservation Stewardship applications | News, Sports, Jobs

United States Department of Agriculture EAST LANSING Farmers and private non-industrial forest owners wanting to enroll in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Conservation Stewardship Program must submit applications by March 5 to be eligible for the current selection period. The Conservation Stewardship Program is for farmers and private forest owners who incorporate conservation practices into their operations and want to expand on those efforts. Through the Conservation Stewardship Program, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service helps farmers and forest landowners earn payments for implementing new conservation activities while maintaining agricultural production on their land. CSP also encourages adoption of new technologies and management techniques.

New rule improves partner flexibility in Regional Conservation Partnership Program

-USDA WASHINGTON The U.S. Department of Agriculture released the final rule for its Regional Conservation Partnership Program. The rule updates USDA’s partner-driven program as directed by the 2018 farm bill and integrates feedback from agricultural producers and others. “The Regional Conservation Partnership Program is a powerful program that enables us to co-invest with partners on win-win solutions that benefit agriculture and natural resources,” said Kevin Norton, acting chief of USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. “The final rule contains some minor adjustments made in response to public comments, and we now look forward to continuing our work with partners to use this unique and innovative program to extend the reach of conservation.”

Conservation District accepting water quality improvement applications – Sheridan Media

The Sheridan County Conservation District and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Sheridan County are now accepting applications for water quality improvement projects. Acceptance is for projects under the Tongue River Regional Conservation Partnership Program, and deadline to apply for 2021 projects is Feb. 12. The Regional Conservation Partnership Program is a USDA program that uses public-private partnerships to improve land and water resources. The Upper Tongue River Watershed is one of two projects in Wyoming that were selected for funding under the program in 2015. According to the conservation district, the Upper Tongue River Watershed project was developed as a partnership that includes the Nature Conservancy, the Sheridan Community Land Trust, Sheridan County Conservation District and Wyoming Game and Fish.
