(PNA) – Widespread flooding has displaced thousands of residents in three Samar provinces on Tuesday as non-stop rains caused rivers and streams to rise and burst their banks.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) reported on Tuesday that 8,676 families, or 17,076 individuals, have been affected by floods in the towns of Sulat, Taft, Dolores, Arteche, Maslog, and Oras in Eastern Samar; and Matuguinao in Samar province.

Updated December 21, 2020 10:15am Almost 6,000 individuals were evacuated due to flooding in Isabela and Cagayan as heavy rains poured, rivers overflowed their banks and Magat Dam released water, according to a report by GMA News stringer Bill Visaya on Unang Balita on Monday. The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 5,912 individuals or 1,467 families were evacuated in the two provinces so far. A total of 113 barangays were flooded in the two provinces, according to a report by GMA News stringer TJ Tuddao. The rains were due to the tail-end of a frontal system as well as the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) enhanced by Tropical Depression Vicky.
