Changes May Be Coming for Ohio County Development Authority | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writer WHEELING Ohio County commissioners are set next week to discuss appointments to and removals from the Ohio County Development Authority board of directors. Yet, they say, there won’t be any major changes in membership. “Mass changes aren’t going to occur,” said Commissioner Randy Wharton, who also serves as OCDA president. “My position is no, and I wouldn’t be in favor of that. “I’m sure the other two commissioners aren’t in favor of that either.” Commissioner Don Nickerson said some people will be removed from the board, which currently has 14 unpaid volunteer members. State statutes stipulate the board must have at least 12 members, and no more than 21 members, he said.

Small Business Program Classes Being Offered to Entrepreneurs | News, Sports, Jobs

jking@theintelligencer.net WHEELING – Virtual classes soon will be available to those with dreams of owning their own business and needing to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills. Wheeling Heritage and the Regional Economic Development Partnership are accepting applications from those wanting to participate in the CO-STARTERS, a 10-week program during which participants learn about such topics as branding, marketing and price structuring. Those who are interested in participating can apply at wheelingheritage.org/costarters. Applications will be accepted until the maximum of 12 applications are received, or until Jan. 6. The cost to participate is $100, and the fee includes needed materials. Classes will take place via Zoom from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Jan. 21.
