Son held in West New York woman’s death, but autopsy results could lead to more charges Updated Jan 15, 2021; A West New York man has been charged with aggravated assault after his mother was found dead inside their home, authorities said. West New York police responded to 439 66th Street at 1:30 p.m. Thursday and found 62-year-old Irma L. Pons Gonzalez unresponsive in a bedroom, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Pons Gonzalez was pronounced dead 16 minutes later. Emmanuel Gonzalez, 33, Pons Gonzalez’s son, who was home when police arrived, has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault, Suarez said. The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed after the cause and manner of Pons Gonzalez’s death are determined by the state Regional Medical Examiner, officials said.
