ILLINOIS More than 17,000 front-line medical workers in Illinois, many of whom have been at the forefront of treating COVID-19 patients for nine grueling months, received their first doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine on Thursday and Friday, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Friday during his daily news conference.
That s just 2.6 percent of the total front-line health care workers in the state, but more vaccines are expected to be doled out in coming days and weeks, including a COVID-19 shot by Moderna, which an FDA advisory committee recommended for approval for emergency use Thursday. The Moderna vaccine is expected to arrive in Illinois early next week, Pritzker said.

SPRINGFIELD â Coronavirus vaccinations from the stateâs National Strategic Stockpile were delivered Thursday to 77 hospitals in 45 counties throughout the state, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced at his daily briefing.
Pritzker said the state firstâs vaccine shipment totaled 109,000 doses â which includes 23,000 to the city of Chicago and 86,000 for the rest of Illinois.
The state received the first 43,000 doses on Monday, which is separate from the federal shipment to Chicago, he said.
âFrom there, distribution was made from our Illinois Strategic National Stockpile to hospitals across the state. Doses were delivered first to our Regional Hospital Coordinating Centers, and also direct to DuPage County, then on to 45 counties and local health departments, finally arriving at 77 hospitals, all across the state,â Pritzker said.

Coronavirus Testing Opens at O Hare International Airport
Coronavirus testing opened at Chicago s O Hare International Airport on Friday for passengers and employees.
Both rapid antigen and PCR COVID-19 test are available at the Chicago-area airport at a walk-up facility located in the bus and shuttle center, according to a tweet.
The testing site is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first level of the main garage between elevators 3 and 4, the airport said.
On Dec. 22, a drive-up COVID-19 testing location is expected to open at O Hare offering both rapid and PCR tests in the economy parking lot H.
