Federal Budget supports Tasmania’s recovery plan
Tasmania continues to benefit from the Liberal and Nationals Government’s record infrastructure investment, with funding for major new projects to be announced in this week’s 2021-22 Budget, securing Australia’s recovery.
Key projects to be funded include:
$80 million for the Tasmanian Roads Package – Bass Highway Safety and Freight Efficiency Upgrades Package – Future Priorities;
$48 million for the Algona Road Grade Separated Interchange and Duplication of the Kingston Bypass;
$44 million for the Rokeby Road – South Arm Road Upgrades;
$37.8 million for the Midland Highway Upgrade – Campbell Town North (Campbell Town to Epping Forest);

Federal Budget infrastructure boost to help build Australia’s economic recovery
The national economy will be boosted by a ten-year infrastructure pipeline, with new funding for major projects to be announced in Tuesday’s Federal Budget.
Key projects to be funded include:
$2 billion of initial investment for a new Melbourne Intermodal Terminal;
$2.03 billion for Great Western Highway Upgrade – Katoomba to Lithgow – Construction of East and West Sections in New South Wales;
$400 million for Inland Freight Route (Mungindi to Charters Towers) Upgrades in Queensland;
$161.6 million for the Truro Bypass in South Australia;
$160 million for Agricultural Supply Chain Improvements – Package 1 in Western Australia;
JOINT STATEMENT
The new bridge over the Fitzroy River has officially opened.
The $12.5 million structure at Riverslea is the third road upgrade delivered as part of the $367.2 million Rookwood Weir project.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Rookwood Weir project is supporting employment and economic development opportunities and will significantly increase water security for Central Queensland.
“The Rookwood Weir is a great example of the Australian Government delivering the water infrastructure that will form the National Water Grid, our $3.5 billion investment to secure Australia’s water future.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning Steven Miles today officially opened the new bridge and handed its ownership over to Rockhampton Regional Council.

Australia leading digital revolution in aviation
The Australian Government is laying the foundations for new jobs in the new frontier of aviation services with the release of the National Emerging Aviation Technologies (NEAT) Policy Statement.
As part of the Government’s new Digital Economy Strategy, the statement sets out how the Government will support individuals and businesses to harness the opportunities offered by digital aviation technologies such as drones, advanced air mobility (AAM) and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Government was committed to maintaining Australia’s status as a world leader in the development and adoption of emerging aviation technologies, as part of its ongoing support to ensure the sector recovers and thrives.

Alliance Airlinesâ plan to build the largest hangar in regional Australia at Rockhampton Airport is gaining momentum, with the Federal Government pledging $25 million toward the project, with construction now expected to begin in September.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack visited Rockhampton Airport on Wednesday to reveal the funding commitment and went as far as labelling the city the âcapital of Allianceâ.
He said the new facility would bring jobs as well as millions of dollars of investment into Rockhampton economy.
âThe Maintenance and Repair Facility has the potential to create 225 jobs and inject $30 million into the local economy each year,â the Deputy Prime Minister said.
