I spend a certain amount of time looking at Alaskan legend as a source of art images for my quilting, so when I saw the Google doodle, I thought it was one of those targeted things. Not so. As it turns out, it is a doodle honoring an Alaskan Tlingit woman, Elizabeth Peratrovich. I’ve taken the following from Wikipedia (to which I donate, so I am comfortable sharing what they have to say. I love that it is updated to show today’s doodle.) This woman was something special:

She currently works as a software developer at Citibank – a huge accomplishment when you think about how under-represented women are in the technology field. All of these things are resume builders, but they do not necessarily make someone inspirational, but Primrose Chareka is that too. Chareka was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and moved to Canada when she was four-years old settling in Antigonish, Nova Scotia when she was seven.  Many immigrants that come to Canada struggle for years, but Chareka’s parents grew out of poverty and she was inspired by their strong work ethic. Students, universities prepare for holiday travel outside Atlantic Canada

HALIFAX Ally Hancock, a fourth-year student at Nova Scotia s St. Francis Xavier University, said she s a bit apprehensive about her flight back home to Toronto for the upcoming holiday break. I ll be nervous going on a plane. My mom s telling me to wear two masks, but I think it ll be fine, Hancock said in a recent interview, adding that after a long semester stationed in the province, she s looking forward to seeing family. I m really close to my mom, so it s always been a really big priority to go back to see her. Like many other students in Atlantic Canada, Hancock is planning on leaving to see family outside of the region, a trip she s taken every year since she enrolled at the university. But this year, her travel is shadowed by fears over travelling during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
