Louisiana had a record number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized Monday just over a month into the fourth-wave surge of infections that has crippled the state’s healthcare resources.
On Tuesday, hospitals across the state reported 2,112 COVID-positive patients in their facilities as of Monday, the largest number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 that Louisiana has seen yet, topping the previous max of 2,069 patients on January 7.
Tuesday’s new record number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients marks an increase of 128 patients from the day before and 722 from a week earlier. Hospitalization figures are reported one day after the fact by Louisiana’s Department of Health.
