France administered doses to about 140 people yesterday
France s European Affairs Minister has said the country will not fail in its Covid-19 vaccination campaign, after coming under fire for the slow start of its roll-out compared with its European neighbours.
Minister Clement Beaune told France s LCI television that the vaccination campaign was just beginning in the country.
France, which is primarily targeting the most vulnerable people in nursing homes for the first phase of the campaign, administered doses to about 140 people yesterday.
That was well below the 42,000 who received shots in Germany, for instance.
Yesterday the French health ministry reported 26,457 new coronavirus infections, up sharply from 11,395 on Tuesday, and a level unseen since 18 November.

Likelihood of no deal continues to grow but UK-EU negotiations could carry on
The chairman of European Parliament s trade committee gave a gloomy outlook on the likelihood of a Brexit trade deal on Sunday, tweeting that emergency measures would likely need to be agreed between the European Union and the United Kingdom.
Sunday evening was the latest deadline for the two sides to come to an agreement on post-Brexit trade relations between the UK and the 27-member bloc, which according to recent figures published from Germany s ifo Center for International Economics, accounts for 47 percent of Britain s exports.

BRUSSELS: EU and UK negotiators pressed on with talks on Saturday with no sign of them breaking an impasse over post-Brexit fishing rights in time to save a trade deal.
Fishing is now the main obstacle to any pact that could be in place on Jan. 1 to prevent an economic jolt on both sides of the Channel as Britain leaves the single market.
“It remains very blocked,” one EU diplomat told AFP.
Another said Brussels had made Britain its last offer on fishing access and it was down now to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to decide whether he wants a deal.
