Prayagraj: In a major respite, the graph of Covid cases in the Sangam city declined further in the past 72 hours as less than 1,000 cases weredetected each day since May 1. On Tuesday, city recorded less than 600 cases and eight Covid deaths.
While Monday (May 3) recorded 863 Covid cases and 12 Covid deaths, Sunday (May 2) saw 984 cases and 21 deaths. On Saturday, 1,145 cases and 23 deaths were reported.
As per the health department data, between April 26 and April 30, the district recorded 7,490 Covid cases, including 1,743 cases on April 26, 1,389 on April 27, 1,267 on April 29, 1,493 on April 28, and 1,598 on April 27.
Prayagraj: The graph of Covid positive patients in the district seems to have flattened over the past five days and is on a gradual decline now. Since April 27, Prayagraj has witnessed less than 1,600 Covid cases each day, as per the health department data.
Between April 27 and May 1, the district recorded 6,892 Covid positive cases, including 1,389 on April 27, 1,267 on April 29, 1,493 on April 28, 1,598 on April 27 and 1,145 on May 1.
Though the number of Covid cases seem to have tabilised in the last week of April, the rising graph of deaths is worrying. As per the health department, a total of 109 Covid deaths have been reported in the past five days, including 23 on May 1, 25 on April 30, 21 on April 29, 22 on April 28 and 18 on April 27.
Prayagraj: At a time when the cremation ghats of Sangam city are witnessing a record number of cremations due to deaths caused by Covid-19, the magnitude of the destruction of lives caused by the pandemic can be gauzed by the number of people approaching Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) and applying for death certificate after losing their loved ones.
The cremation ghats of the city including the three important ghats, namely Rasulabad, Daraganj and Phaphamau are witnessing a record number of bodies that are being cremated every day. The situation is no better at PMC in terms of people applying for death certificate of their dear ones they have lost to the deadly virus. The number of people approaching the zonal offices of PMC, which are located at different localities or those coming to PMC main office at Civil Lines speak volumes of the destruction caused by the pandemic.

The joint team of police and district administration has already started barricading zones in more than 50 identified and classified pockets of the city.
PRAYAGRAJ: In an attempt to contain the spread of coronavirus, the police and district administration in Uttar Pradesh s Prayagraj have divided the city into 14 containment zones and 100 sectors.
They have also deputed joint teams comprising police and administrative officers, volunteers of civil defence, National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), and crime prevention committee at each zone for strict surveillance.
Inspector general of police KP Singh, told TOI, “After identifying the urban and rural pockets which reported maximum number of Covid cases, and further mapping these areas, the joint team of district administration, police and Prayagraj Municipal Corporation have divided the city into 14 zones and 100 sectors to maintain a strict surveillance.”
