14 major UK employers join socially focused Purposeful Company scheme

Last modified on Tue 11 May 2021 00.11 EDT The bosses of 14 big organisations, including Capita, Unilever and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), have pledged to put the wellbeing of staff, local communities and broader society higher on the boardroom agenda, after concluding it will enhance the long-term profitability of their businesses. The Purposeful Company, a not-for-profit organisation, said it had brought together business leaders from leading FTSE 100 companies and large accountancy firms, whose businesses employ 2 million people and manage £1tn of investment assets, to show that having a purpose beyond a simple profit motive “brings strategic clarity, operational discipline around what’s material to stakeholders and more meaningful work for employees”.

In 2018, the Jackson sisters graduated from North Houston Early Collegewith a high school diploma and Associate degree at the age of 17. Now, at 20-years-old, the twins are ready to start the next phase of their career. On May 8th, Jordyn obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Morgan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications. “It’s never too early to start working on your craft and you’re never too young to make an impact,” says Jordyn. “One of the things my sister and I took advantage of when we got to Xavier was the office of career service. That office is vital to your college career. I was able to have three internships with PwC just by always being in the office of career service

OSC seeks to extend cease trade in BFI case

James Langton Enforcement staff at the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) are seeking to extend a temporary cease trade order against Bridging Finance Inc. (BFI). The OSC will hold a hearing on May 12 to consider an application from OSC staff to extend the order issued on April 30 against BFI and its various investment vehicles for three months (until Aug. 12), while it continues its investigation into the firm. The temporary order is due to expire on May 15. In its application, OSC staff said they’re investigating whether BFI and certain executives engaged in fraudulent conduct, made misstatements to the regulator’s staff and failed to deal fairly with its clients, among other possible misconduct.

PwC donates $100,000 to SVG relief

PwC donates $100,000 to SVG relief PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the Caribbean and the PwC Charitable Foundation have collectively donated $100,000 to disaster relief and recovery efforts in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, following the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano there. PwC firms operating in the Caribbean contributed a total of $60,000. The funds were raised by the partners and staff of PwC firms in The Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, East Caribbean (Barbados and St. Lucia), Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, The PwC Charitable Foundation approved a grant of $30,000 to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross, through the American Red Cross. And a donation of $10,000 was made by L&F Indemnity Limited (L&F), the Bermuda-based captive insurance company for the PricewaterhouseCoopers network of firms.

Credit: Dreamstime The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has enlisted the help of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to help it tackle a mounting case backlog generated by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The government body turned to the global accounting and professional service giant to remove its legacy case management system that was approaching end of life, replacing it with Dynamics 365.  Working with PwC and Microsoft, VCAT now has digitised paper files and processes in readiness for its Planning and Environment lists going completely digital this year.
