This winter season, the
Le Dumont-d’Urville will be sailing from the Bridgetown Port with two, nine-day Caribbean itineraries lined up. Not only this, but the luxury expedition line will also be making Barbados a port-of-call for five other nine-day Caribbean itineraries.
“Historically, Barbados has always had a strong connection with the cruise industry and partners like PONANT,” Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Lisa Cummins said in response to the latest cruise developments.
“The decision by PONANT to make our island home port for the
Le Dumont-d’Urville during the upcoming winter season is clear evidence that both Barbados and the cruise industry are intent on strengthening that pre-existing connection,” she added.

Local businesses are being cautioned against using strong-arm tactics to ensure that employees and/or prospective employees accept COVID-19 vaccines, as it could well be against the law.
Describing the subject as “extremely complex” Executive Director of the Barbados Employers’ Confederation (BEC) Sheena Mayers-Granville could offer no firm position on whether one’s vaccination status could legally be used as a prerequisite for a job.
President of the Barbados Private Sector Association Edward Clarke, however, warned that while workers should not be forced, refusal to be vaccinated could result in more social and economic stagnation for the foreseeable future.

Two new diesel-electric hybrid Straddle Carriers at the Port of Bridgetown are expected to help improve operations in terms of environmental sustainability, savings on fuel and wait times.
The Port of Bridgetown is working towards the reduction of carbon emissions and environmental sustainability and sourced the equipment via the Miami-based Oceanland Equipment LLC, from manufacturers, Kalmar.
The equipment came from Poland and was received on Friday, February 5.

Police are investigating the suspected drowning death of 61 year old British visitor
Mark Smith, who was staying at Hibiscus Avenue, Sunset Crest, St James. Smith’s body was recovered from the sea in an area off Payne’s Bay, St James.
Circumstances
On Sunday 31st January 2021, Police at Holetown Station received a report that a man who was seen in the water located near The Beach House, Sunset Crest, St. James was struck by a wave which took him underwater and he had not resurfaced.
The Police Marine Unit, the Barbados Coast Guard and other personnel responded and conducted a joint search of the area on both land and sea without any sightings.
