Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster appoints first chief executive Wigton-based organisation Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster has appointed its first chief executive. The private sector-led membership organisation, based at Woodrow Hall, has welcomed Dianne Richardson to the role. “‘BECBC is the place where energy meets business and the coming years will prove pivotal for the energy sector and business, with both Net Zero and levelling-up right at the top of the agenda,” said Ivan Baldwin, chairman of Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster. “To this end, we have taken the opportunity to reshape BECBC to meet the evolving needs of our members by appointing our first chief executive – Dianne Richardson.

Carlisle Apprenticeship scheme is recognised nationally

CARLISLE College has been nominated for an award in this year’s FE Week & AELP Apprenticeship Awards 2021. The college has been shortlisted for the ‘Promoting Apprenticeships Campaign of the Year’ category in light of the success of its 100 in 100 campaign last year. Th scheme set to minimise the impact of Covid-19 on students by helping to develop Apprenticeship placements, securing 100 Apprenticeship Opportunities in 100 Days, between July 1 and October 9 2020. Carlisle College was selected out of 350 entries that applied to the categories, in a virtual event that was hosted by the comedian Rory Bremner earlier this month. 112 employer’s handed out 117 apprenticeships over the course of the scheme, which exceeded the college’s aim of 100 days.

Barrow MP joins new alliance to drive business and social investment in Cumbria

A NEW alliance has been formed to drive business and social investment in Cumbria. The newly formed Invest In Cumbria Alliance, a group of private sector organisations, local government and political leaders in the North, has come together to develop a new approach to ensure that the prosperity of Cumbria is reflected in the level of investment into the county. The alliance wants to see the county become more competitive and areas of highest deprivation economically levelled-up. Those behind the initiative include: Trudy Harrison MP, John Stevenson MP, Simon Fell MP as well as leadership from Copeland, Allerdale and Barrow with support from Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC).
