What s the Big Deal About Assisted Suicide?

What’s the Big Deal About Assisted Suicide? January 25, 2021 It seems like an easy and empowering solution to end-of-life suffering, but the moral and practical implications of assisted suicide are more than meets the eye.  Marine veteran J.J. Hanson and his wife, Kristen, were new parents when they learned that J.J. had a rare form of stage 4 brain cancer. Doctors gave him four months to live. Around the same time, newlywed Brittany Maynard was making headlines as she faced the same form of cancer. Her home state of California did not allow assisted suicide, so Maynard and her husband moved to Oregon, where they found a doctor who could and would prescribe drugs to end her life.

Upper Arlington Roundup: Veteran Golden Bears gymnasts, new coach seek another league title ThisWeek group Entering her first season as Upper Arlington gymnastics coach, Anna Tzagournis wants nothing more than for the Golden Bears to experience the success Tzagournis enjoyed in high school.  A member of UA’s state-qualifying teams in 2014 and 2015 and an individual qualifier on floor exercise as a junior, Tzagournis has replaced Brittany Maynard, who resigned after two seasons.   Tzagournis, who graduated from Tennessee last spring, jumped at the chance to lead the program, in which her younger sister, Mia, is a senior.  “I just wanted to step up for her and the other seniors so they could have a good year,” coach Tzagournis said. “I’m familiar with this program because I competed here for three years (2013-16). I’m familiar with this gym (Universal Gymnasts, Inc., where the team practices) and these coaches. I wanted to provide the proper structure and s

Rush Limbaugh’s Life-Affirming Strength Commentary I deeply admire Rush Limbaugh. Not because of his conservative viewpoints, and not because he’s a uniquely talented broadcaster who can make dropping a pencil interesting radio. No. I have been most impressed over the years by Limbaugh’s strength of character, a crucial leadership attribute in woefully short supply at a time of failing institutions and callow public personalities. Strength of character? Limbaugh? Yes, Limbaugh. For those who may be unaware, in January, Limbaugh was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. After nearly a year of pursuing experimental treatments, he recently told his audience that his illness has entered a terminal stage. Yet, Limbaugh continues on with his show if anything, with greater gusto than before he fell ill only taking time off periodically during “treatment week.”
