The British Office for Budget Responsibility had previously estimated that the final cost of withdrawal would be £39billion - some £1.8billion less than the EU amount contained in Brussels consolidated budget report for 2020. The final bill would have been higher at £43billion, but the EU owes Britain £1.8billion for its share of fines imposed by the bloc on companies and other entities before the end of the transition period.
