PLEASE NOTE: This information is correct as of 6pm on 7 May.
The UK government has announced the much anticipated green list, where travellers will not have to quarantine on their return once the travel ban is lifted on 17 May. However, in reality, not all of them are currently open to UK travellers.

A STUDENT from the Bradford district is set for a trip to NASA and the Pentagon after winning the final of a national cyber security challenge. Samee Ullah Malik, 18, of Heaton, was part of a winning four-person team made up of students from across the UK taking part in CyberCenturion VII. His team came together virtually from Bristol and Potters Bar to claim first prize. In the final, the students had to identify potential vulnerabilities in the space engineering IT infrastructure of fictional company New Gen to show their technical skills and win the competition. The virtual final saw Samee s side beat off competition from 14 other finalist teams to seal an all-expenses paid trip to the US Northrop Grumman facility, including a visit to the Pentagon, which is the headquarters building of the United States Department of Defense, and the NASA space research facility, when travel restrictions allow.

For most of us in the UK, this year has been a long old slog so far. But finally infection rates are plummeting, the economy is opening up and the vaccine rollout is continuing apace – all of which is making people look ahead to the summer, and specifically whether we’ll be able to go on holiday abroad.
Right now, non-essential travel from the UK is still banned. But from May 17, the UK is set to dramatically loosen its border restrictions and allow in travellers from select ‘green list’ destinations – without requiring any form of quarantine.
As the UK moves on to the next stage of its reopening plan, the total ban on foreign holidays will be lifted, meaning UK residents can leave the country for the first time in months.
