Legislation for the UK’s independent tariff policy
Today the Government has taken the necessary steps to bring into legal effect the UK’s first independent global tariff regime for almost 50 years.

From the 1 January 2021 the UK Global Tariff will replace the EU’s Common External Tariff as the UK’s Most Favoured Nation tariff – the framework it will use to trade independently outside of free trade agreements.
The UK Global Tariff is tailored to the needs of the UK economy, backing British business to compete on the world stage.
It’s simpler to use, greener, and cuts red tape and other unnecessary barriers to trade. It will make it easier for businesses to import goods from overseas. Today, 16 December, steps will be taken to bring this into law, with the laying of Statutory Instruments before Parliament as part of a wider legislative package.

If it hits, the food chain for the penguins could be cut off, leading to starvation among the native birds as well as nesting seals.
If it does, it could block off the path to open water and also disturb local marine wildlife.
In both instances, the iceberg would majorly disrupt the natural food supply.
While parts of the iceberg have crumbled, it still remains record-breaking in size and is a major concern to scientists.

A British team of experts will now send a fleet of underwater robotic gliders to analyse the iceberg and determine just how catastrophic the crashing of the iceberg could be.

HAMILTON, Bermuda–December 14th, 2020–Rena Lalgie was sworn-in yesterday as the Governor of Bermuda during a closed event held at Government House. She was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II, and is the first female black Governor of Bermuda.
Those in attendance included the Premier of Bermuda, the Hon. David Burt JP MP, the Chief Justice, the Hon Justice Narinder Hargun, JP, and the Secretary to the Cabinet, Maj Marc T. Telemaque.
All necessary health guidelines and precautions were observed in the carrying out of the swearing in.

A UK-led team of scientists will be sent to Antarctica to study the world’s largest iceberg, which is on a collision course with the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia.
The iceberg, A-68a – a floating chunk roughly the size of Jamaica – is now less than 50km from the island.
Its arrival could spell disaster for much of the wildlife around South Georgia, one of the world’s most important ecosystems.
The island was a major whaling station until the mid-20th century, but now has no permanent human residents.
