After calling 1947 Gurkha treaty redundant , Pradeep Gyawali says Nepalese can join Indian Gurkha regiments Saturday, January 16, 2021 By: Times Now After calling Gurkha recruitment a legacy of past and the 1947 tripartite agreement redundant , Nepal Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali has now said that the Nepalese can join Indian Gurkha regiments. In July last year, Gyawali had said that the recruitment was the first window open for Nepali youths to go abroad adding that it created a lot of jobs in the society in past but termed some provisions as questionable. Gurkhas, who originate from the mountainous region of Nepal’s Gorkha region, have been an integral part of the Indian Army for over six decades. There are 39 battalions serving in 7 Gorkha regiments as of now.

A London council has been hit by a backlash after renaming a road that honoured the hero of Lucknow Sir Major General Henry Havelock after the founder of Sikhism. A section of Havelock Road - named after the military leader who has a statue in Trafalgar Square - was officially renamed Guru Nanak Road in Southall, Ealing, on Monday. The change of the new road sign has sparked a furious row as critics called it airbrushing history and say it is the latest bid to try and erase Britain’s cultural heritage. General Havelock led the British army to recapture Cawnpore in India during the siege of Lucknow in 1857.
