VANCOUVER (Reuters) - Canada has called for two of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou’s main arguments in her fight against U.S. extradition to be dismissed, saying her claims are not backed with evidence and one issue has been ruled on, court documents released on Tuesday showed.
Meng, 49, was arrested at Vancouver International Airport in December 2018 on a warrant from the United States, where she faces charges of bank fraud for allegedly misleading HSBC about Huawei’s business dealings in Iran, causing the bank to break U.S. sanctions.

The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) and Glasgow distiller Whyte and MacKay have filed a lawsuit against a Canadian whisky maker over its alleged misleading branding.
As reported by Glacier Media, the lawsuit has been filed against whisky producer MacMhaol-Onfhaidh (Macaloney) Brewers and Distillers, which also goes by the name of Victoria Caledonian Distillery and Twa Dogs Brewery.
Reports state that a suit was filed against the Canadian distiller on 5 March, which contains claims that the producer’s branding and use of the word ‘Scotch’ misleads consumers into believing the product is made in Scotland.
The document filed at the British Columbia Supreme Court reads: “The plaintiffs do strongly object to the defendant’s misleading branding and marketing of its whiskies, which confuses consumers, prejudices makers of genuine Scotch whisky

Meng, 49, was arrested on a U.S. warrant on Dec. 1, 2018, during a stopover at Vancouver International Airport. She is accused by the United States of misleading HSBC about Huawei Technologies Co Ltd’s business dealings in Iran, putting the bank at risk of violating U.S. sanctions.
She denies the charges and has asked the extradition request be thrown out because her rights were violated.
Defense lawyer Tony Paisana said authorities on both sides of the border failed in their duties to conduct themselves honorably and transparently, listing many alleged violations of Meng’s rights in submissions to the court on Wednesday.
