A first-of-its-kind professional nurse advocate scheme has been launched by NHS England to try and support the recovery of the nursing workforce in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Nursing Times, English chief nursing officer Ruth May announced that the programme had started this week as a way to “thank, repay and restore our people”.
“It will equip them to listen and understand challenges and demands of fellow colleagues”

“This programme is the first of its kind for our profession in England,” said Ms May. A similar scheme already exists for midwives.
In the coming months, up to 1,500 nurses across the country will undergo a Level 7 accredited programme to become a professional nurse advocate (PNA).
