BBC News Published image captionThe seal pup was rescued after being found at a bus stop in Porthleven A seal pup found at a bus stop in Cornwall has been returned to the sea. The Cornish Seal Sanctuary and the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) were called to Porthleven on Wednesday. The sanctuary said the pup had made her way to the bus stop during stormy weather and a high tide, presumably seeking shelter. It said the pup was found at the bus stop next to the harbour which was unusual . She was assessed by medics from the BDMLR and the seal sanctuary and was found to be healthy with no injuries.

Police receive reports of dogs and children attacking seals

POLICE have said they have received reports of dogs attacking seal pups and children throwing stones at them. A police spokesman said: There have been a number of reports of seal pups on Cumbria s beaches this year. In the majority of cases the pups are just taking a rest and want to be left alone. It is essential that these mammals are not disturbed or distressed. If you come across a seal pup or any other marine mammal on any of our beaches please call the BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) on 01825 765546, who will offer advice and if necessary allocate a trained Marine Medic to attend.

Seal found at Porthleven bus stop taken by Cornish sanctuary

A seal pup has been found waiting at a bus stop, after swimming out of the sea and crossing a main road. The young pup, thought to be only a few weeks old, was discovered by a group of schoolchildren waiting for the bus in Porthleven at around 8am this morning. Dropping off her daughter to join them was Lisa Cadman, who could not believe what she was seeing. She immediately rang her husband, Simon, an officer with the Cornwall Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority, as she thought he might know what to do. It is not clear exactly why the seal ended up at the bus stop, with Simon joking: It was trying to catch a bus to Godrevy I think!
