In the mood for a cult movie but already seen all the go-to classics? Building on our previous list, here are five offbeat picks streaming on Amazon Prime that will bring you tales of werewolves, Satanists, witches, and two different (but also sorta kinda
similar) underground monsters.
1) C.H.U.D. (1984)
If you write off this sci-fi horror from director Douglas Cheek because you assume it’s purely ridiculous the cheeky name of movie’s boogeymen, the “Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers,” has a hand in giving that impression you’ll be denying yourself the joy that comes from watching it. Beneath the streets of Lower Manhattan, a race of creatures spawned from toxic waste have been gobbling up all of the unhoused people who’re living underground; when that supply dries up, they start preying on anyone unlucky enough to walk past a manhole.

We know you don’t need anyone to tell you that the last year has been hard. But also: The last year or so has been hard, huh? Lots of chaos, lots of pandemic, very little marmalade, or the small brown bears who crave it. But no longer on that last front, at least, as Studiocanal has confirmed that
Paddington 3 is, indeed, in the works.

Barclays has resumed modest shareholder payouts after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, setting expectations other British lenders will follow suit when they report 2020 earnings in the next few days. The resumption came as Barclays profit fell by half, much less than forecast as a strong performance by its investment bank offset provisions against bad loans from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Barclays shares, however, fell as much as 5 per cent, after the payout plans and a vague outlook set out with no profit targets left investors underwhelmed. The bank said its returns are likely to improve meaningfully , without giving any numbers, and said pressure on income at its loss-making consumer business was likely to continue over the medium term.
If there’s a moral to the
universe, it’s and to be honest, we’re extrapolating a bit here that you can still own a very pretty house, even when bad things are happening. And, look: Don’t we all like thinking about owning a pretty house? Or, barring that, looking at people pretending to own a pretty house? It’s a comfort, is all we’re saying. The houses are very pretty.
