LONDON - The Duchess of Cambridge is self-isolating after having contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.
Kate had been due to attend events with her husband Prince William on Monday celebrating the 73rd birthday of Britain’s National Health Service.
But the couple’s Kensington Palace office says the duchess is self-isolating at home after coming into contact last week with someone who subsequently tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Under current British rules, contacts of confirmed coronavirus cases must quarantine at home for 10 days.

Mr. Johnson suggested during a news conference Monday that he is pushing for the move. “As we come to the fourth step, we have to balance the risks,” the prime minister said. “The risks of the disease which the vaccines have reduced, but very far from eliminated. And the risks of continuing with legally enforced restrictions that inevitably take their toll on people’s lives, livelihoods and on people’s health and mental health.”
Moving to step four would make wearing face masks voluntary, end one-meter social distancing requirements, and lift limits placed on indoor and outdoor gatherings among other restrictions.

PRIME MINISTER BORIS JOHNSON: To those who say we should delay again, the alternative to that is to open up in winter, when the virus will have an advantage, or not at all this year.
CHANG: All right. For more, we turn now to our London correspondent, Frank Langfitt.

LONDON, July – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson set out plans on Monday to end social and economic COVID-19 restrictions in England in two weeks’ time, a test of whether a rapid vaccine rollout offers enough protection from the highly contagious Delta variant.
Johnson confirmed the government aimed to end restrictive measures on July 19, with a final decision to be taken next week. He said the step would eliminate formal limits on social contact, the instruction to work from home, and mandates to wear face masks.
