Former headteacher, school governor, choir founder and local volunteer, David Powell, is leaving Dorset. He and his wife Barbara are moving to the Cotswolds to be closer to their children and grandchildren. The couple moved to west Dorset in 1990, when Mr Powell was appointed headteacher of Burton Bradstock Primary School. He worked to forge strong links between the village community and the school and the schoolchildren regularly performed plays and concerts for the villagers. In 2003, Mr Powell became the headteacher of St Mary s Middle School in Puddletown, which was a bigger challenge considering the size of the school. He then moved into Dorset Children s Services to advise school leaders on improvement and leadership development, before officially retiring in 2015.
