One stranded Loggerhead sea turtle has gotten the chance of its lifetime quite literally.
According to a Facebook post by the Padre Island National Seashore, staff with the Division of Sea Turtles Science and Recovery rescued a stranded loggerhead sea turtle on the seashore Sunday.
According to officials, the turtle was in “definite need of help,” covered in barnacles and was taken to the Texas Sealife Center for evaluation and rehabilitation.
According to seashore officials, even though it is sea turtle nesting season, stranded turtles can wash in at any time.

Created by the lab of Dr. Pamela Plotkin, professor and Texas Sea Grant director, the iSeaTurtle app was made to assist with an ecosystem assessment of Matagorda Bay.
The app partnered with the Turtle Island Restoration Network to expand its coverage to track turtle sightings all over Texas coast, a news release said. Turtle Island Restoration Network is thrilled to be part of the iSeaturtle app to gather critical data on sea turtles in Gulf waters,” Joanie Steinhaus, gulf program director of Turtle Island Restoration Network, said in the release. Knowing the locations of sea turtles will help scientists save turtles from going extinct, and we hope every Texan will support these paramount efforts.

âI decided I wanted to dedicate my career to try and save this magnificent species that was almost lost in one human generation,Shaver, says Chief of the Division of Sea Turtle Science, Dr.Shaver.
Her career has taken her from upstate New York to Corpus Christi, Shaver says she has had six different job titles, but her road to success was not always easy.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Alex Troutman is a wildlife biologist and the co-organizer of Black in Marine Science Week.
Troutman said the event began with Black birders week, which highlights Black birders. Black in Marine Science Week is meant to bring change and show people there are Black marine scientists in the field. We are doing amazing things and we want to showcase the Black marine scientists that we know and also connect other Black marine scientists,â Troutman said.
Troutman said he found the job working with sea turtles in Corpus Christi on USAjobs.gov.
