Federal authorities placed a detainer on an Ecuadoran national living in Hackensack after local authorities jailed him on charges of sexually assaulting a pre-teen.
Nelson Fabian Padilla, a 26-year-old pizzeria worker, remained held Monday in the Passaic County Jail following his arrest three days earlier on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by contact and child endangerment, records show.
ICE authorities issued a detainer so that Padilla can be brought before a U.S. District Court judge in Newark for a hearing on his immigration status if a local judge releases him under New Jersey’s bail reform law.

A Newark woman has been charged with two counts of assault by auto and one count each of child endangerment, driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, having an uninsured motor vehicle and other motor vehicle violations after she was involved in a two-car crash on Route 1 North, according to the West Windsor Police Department.
The woman, who was driving with her eight-month-old child in a Nissan sport utility vehicle, was traveling on Route 1 near Carnegie Center when the accident occurred on May 6. She was driving in the left lane and swerved into the right lane, striking a Mercedes-Benz driven by a Monroe Township resident, police said.
“But four years is not a temporary suspension,” said the ruling from a three-judge panel.
“And a decision to bar a parent from seeing his child must be based on an actual finding of harm to the child or unfitness of the parent supported by substantial credible evidence in the record,” it continued. “That finding was never made here.”
The appeals court said the father, identified only as a Pennsylvania man with the initials A.T., should be allowed “weekly supervised parenting time,” effective 10 days after the May 5 ruling.
It ordered an evidentiary hearing within 30 days to determine whether the father is “entitled to unsupervised parenting time, considering the best interests of the child … and if so, what conditions, if any, should be imposed by the court.”
N.J. man accused of touching 13-year-old in front of younger child

A New Jersey man is accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl in the presence of her younger sibling last year, according to charges filed by police Thursday.
Mario E. Hernandez, 54, of Paterson is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of criminal sexual contact, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
Detectives from the prosecutor’s office began investigating after getting a report from the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency in March that a child was being sexually abused. The 13-year-old reported being sexually abused by Hernandez in the fall at the teen’s Paterson home, an account that was corroborated by the younger child.

Diana Camacho, 52, of Jersey City – an employee of the Kiddie Academy in Hoboken – has been charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, Suarez said in a statement.
Camacho was arrested yesterday at approximately 4:45 p.m. at the Hudson County
Prosecutor’s Office after she turned herself in.
The HCPO Special Victims Unit was contacted by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, Institutional Abuse Investigations Unit about possible abuse by Camacho, and as a result, launched an investigation.
