State delivers water to Tuluksak

Photos courtesy Northern Air Cargo 2, provided by state of Alaska Tuluksak, Alaska (KINY) - The state of Alaska is delivering almost 1300 gallons of drinking water to Tuluksak since their temporary water filtration system must be taken offline due to river ice break-up. Some pallets arrived Monday, with more on the way. Tuluksak s washeteria and water facility were destroyed by fire in January. The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management said they will remain in close contact with the community and that they will continue to help supply water until a new temporary solution is found.

County added legal expenses for relocation efforts with jail project

The Itasca County Board met for a regular session at the Itasca County Courthouse on Tuesday. During the meeting, commissioners approved an additional $15,000 in expected legal expenses for relocation efforts related to property acquisition for the construction of the new correctional facilities. Attorneys with Rinke Noonan provided a letter why the budget had gone beyond its initial contract. The county board approved the original contract in August 2020. The board felt the issue was beyond the scope of the county attorney to handle the specialized service of relocating tenants. County Administrator Brett Skyles recommended approving the additional $15,000. “It’s not always easy to find relocation spots or relocate tenants in there,” Skyles said. “This group (Rinke Noonan) has been excellent to work with and answered all my questions. St Lawrence County to see $6 million state grant for emergency dispatch system after two-year wait

CANTON — A more than two-year wait for a $6 million state grant for St. Lawrence County emergency services is over. The county Board of Legislators’ Operations Committee last week unanimously passed a resolution authorizing board chair William J. Sheridan to sign a contract with the state and modify the 2021 budget to reflect a $6 million revenue increase from the 2018 Statewide Interoperable Communications Targeted Grant program for radio dispatch upgrades. SICG-Targeted is part of a collection of interoperable communications grants administered by the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. A total $65 million was available in the 2018 targeted round, separate from annual formula and operations grants for emergency communications systems.

Five Steps to Jump Start Your Cybersecurity Program is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 27. Steven Gravel, Cybersecurity Support Liaison at the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, will explore a few of the cyber risks faced by the local government, health care and education sectors. He will also tackle some of the roadblocks organizations can encounter when trying to make headway in mitigating these risks, and how to get around them. While cybersecurity can be complex and technical, this webinar will focus on strategy and guiding principles.
